Building a business is built on two pillars. Prospecting and marketing are two different things.
Prospecting is when you contact someone online, offline, cold market, warm market, Facebook, text message, face to face, and so on. It is you who is personally contacting someone.
When someone contacts you because of something you have done, this is referred to as marketing.
So, the question is, “What do you do when someone contacts you?” “How do you deal with it?”
First and foremost, you must understand your prospect’s position.
Someone in position zero has never expressed any interest in any manner, shape, or form. Someone who views your video and contacts you, on the other hand, is in a better position. So, based on your video, those people would be in position one. If your film was specifically about your product, service, or opportunity, it may fall into position two. So you can say position one or position two.
So, if I’m prospecting someone in position zero and they haven’t expressed any prior interest, you can’t draw any assumptions.
But if someone contacts me, I can invoke their position and respond, “Cool, thanks for contacting me.” I’m just curious, what prompted you to seek out? What was the primary reason you reached out to me today?”
I have access to the position.
“Hey, I see you reside in Sacramento,” I would say. I know we’ve never met, but I’m trying to expand my business in Sacramento. Would you be interested in taking a look at what I’m up to? If you’re interested, I’d love to talk with you. If not, it’s not a huge deal.”
So that’s prospecting from the ground up.
However, if someone contacts you, they are NOT at position zero. They made contact with you.
So you could say something like, “Hey, I’m just wondering.” “What prompted you to contact me today?”
And you should pay attention to the reason they give, since they might hand me the keys to the kingdom. Or they may say to me, “Well, I’m actually just searching for a way to generate money from home.”
Then I might say, “Awesome.” I’d be delighted to share with you how I make extra money from home. Is this something you’re really interested in? I can show you a little video that will demonstrate exactly what you need to do.”
So I’ll use whatever terms they give me, but you should always address the position.
You should always address the situation.
Assume you run a Facebook Live with the call to action, “reach out to me if you’re looking to generate additional money from home.” So someone contacts you, and you inquire as to what prompted them to do so.
And they declare, “I’d like to make some more money from home.”
“Awesome,” you say. So, listen up, I’ve got a video that outlines how I generate additional money from home and how you can too. And I’d be delighted to send it to you. When will you be able to watch it?”
Let’s say I email them the video and they agree to see it; they’re now officially in position two. You could even claim that they are in third place. However, they are unquestionably in second place. They contacted me after viewing the video.
Then, suppose I follow up with them and ask, “Hey, what do you enjoy about the video?” And they respond, “You know what? I despised it. Ridiculous. “It was a complete waste of my time.”
Okay, then I’m going to shift the focus away from the video and toward, “Well, why did you even view the video?” What did you expect to see?”
“Well, I was thinking I’d be able to blah, blah, blah,” they say. And you say, “Well, you may not have realised it, but you can actually accomplish that.” then describe how you’re going to do it.
So the most crucial thing you can do is to play the positions. You can exploit the combination of their position and your tools and resources to your advantage. It’s understandable that not everyone will enjoy the video.
